She/her pronouns.” From that day onwards, she felt that she wasn’t remain in the closet anymore. She said, “I was like, I cannot f**king do this anymore. That was the point where puberty was really picking up and everything in my life was completely falling apart.
I was constantly having mental breakdowns in the middle of class. I could not get through the days. I didn’t want to wake up, I didn’t want to do anything.” She Continued.. “I just wanted to rot, pretty much. It was like, I cannot do this anymore. If I stay in the closet anymore, this is going to take me down a very destructive path.” Furthermore, she first shared her truth on Instagram before telling her mother, a decision she later deeply regretted. Until then, she was known as Xavier Alexander Musk. However, when she finally opened up to her mother, she found unwavering support. Her mother not only embraced her transition but also played a meaningful role in inspiring her new name.
How Elon Musk Reacted
Elon Musk didn’t take it well and didn’t accept Vivian’s transition. He publicly criticized her. In a 2024 interview with Jordan Peterson, Elon Musk claimed he had been “tricked” into allowing his daughter to receive gender-affirming care at 16. However, Wilson pushed back against this statement, taking to Threads to clarify that Musk was fully aware of the medical decisions she made.
Moreover, the medical decisions she made further strained their relationship from that point onward. Furthermore, Vivian told the magazine that she hasn’t spoken to Musk since she came out in 2020. She also added that she is financially independent from her father. “I haven’t talked to him since 2020. That was almost half a decade ago at this point.”
Vivian’s Career
According to reports, Vivian Jenna Wilson left the United States to become a translator. For building her career, she moved to study French, Spanish, and Japanese languages. As of 2025, she is living in Tokyo.
She has also shared how her growing online presence has led her to explore different career paths, including modeling, Twitch streaming, or even her “absolute dream job”—being on a reality show. She said, “I haven’t made any money from being famous at all. I have made zero dollars and zero cents.
